Too Much of a Good Thing

Several months ago, well before I became a father (actually, well before my daughter was even conceived)I ordered a wicked cool Beatles poster from Allposters.com. It's a reprint of the record store release poster of Revolver and it's huge. We're talking like 55 inches high and around 40 inches wide. I didn't want to demolish it by using thumb tacks to hang it up. And besides, I wanted it to be a focal point when I get my house. So I decided to do the grown up thing and have it framed for suitable display. Initially when I called the fram place to get a quote, the lady told me it be around $600 to frame. Fuck that!

So months went by while it collected a Dickensian layer of dust laying behind my television. However, this weekend some bug got up my crack and I decided that I would hall it to the local shop-o-rama to see about getting it framed ona budget. Well, I only had to shell out $220, but it's friggin' huge. Right now my wife and I are living in my room at my mom's house. It's not an especially large room and this black and white psychedelic lithograph is a bit too much. But, damn it, it's already framed and there's not other place to put. So for the time being, I guess I'll have to live with the hollowed out faces of John, Paul, George and Ringo looking at me every waking moment.

Gateway 210

I've had some bad experiences blogging in the past. However, if I use a little common sense this time around and keep my blogging to neutral and trivial subjects I should be alright. In this case, I'm blogging about my seedy materialistic side. The side of me that wants to rip out credit cards and come home with the smell of new electronics still shimmering in my olfactory warehouse.

Growing up a single child with divorced parents, it was my God-given right to be spoiled. And although I'm now a husband and a father, there is still a part of me that longs for the shopping sprees of yester-year. Unfortunately, as a normal part of any addiction, it takes more and more of the goods to keep my flying level. I used to be fine cruising The Gap after school for yet another new shirt, now I'm circling the BMW dealership bi-weekly.

I make good money, but I also have a shred of common sense that tells me just because I can buy something doesn't mean I should.

Anyways, I recently bought a new Gateway 210 notebook. As anyone of my friends could tell you I've been lusting after the Apple PowerBook for a year now, but I ended up going with a less expensive model (new baby, gotta' watch the dollars). So here I am with a new toy and not that much I can do with it. So why not start a new blog? The keyboard on this notebook is fantastic. I love typing on it. There is something so much more "intellectual" about typing on a notebook as opposed to a desktop. Go figure.

The purpose of this blog is to document my obsession with material goods. Although, like urges for a first cousin, some feelings are not socially acceptable. People, even Americans, condemn those who believe in a little GDP influx now and again. So be it. I'm not going to judge them, they don't have to judge me.

I'll probably erase this entry later when I can think of something better to write, but it's OK for right now.
